Remote and barge-access projects
Some of the best work in BC has no road to it. PCE goes where the work is: up the coast and into northern BC by barge, and into the Interior by road.
What this covers
- Planning and loading equipment for barge mobilization
- Self-contained crews: site office trailer, RVs, fuel and spares
- Bridge installation and crossings at remote sites
- Slope cuts, pads and site preparation on remote sites
- Loading excavated material onto barges
On a remote job, what does not get on the barge does not get to site. PCE plans the equipment list, attachments, fuel and spares up front, and brings a crew that can keep machines running without a dealer down the road.
PCE has run equipment and crews out of Rivers Inlet on the central coast for Matcon, gone into northern BC by barge, and operated an ocean disposal facility for Matcon Excavation and Shoring.
Common questions
Where in BC will PCE work?
PCE is based in Langley and goes where the work is: up the coast and into northern BC by barge, and into the Interior by road. Crews are often away for weeks at a time on bigger projects.
What does a barge-access job need before it starts?
A landing where the barge ramp can come down, a complete equipment list including attachments, fuel and spares, a plan for crew accommodation, and a plan for spills, sediment and waste. Anything left behind costs another barge trip.
How do crews live on a remote site?
Self-contained. At Rivers Inlet PCE barged in excavators along with a site office trailer and crew RVs, and built from the landing.
Can you load excavated material onto barges?
Yes. Loading excavated material and rock onto barges is part of PCE’s remote and coastal work, including operating an ocean disposal facility for Matcon Excavation and Shoring.
